The Forbidden Fruit

Here is an interesting little clip in which self-ascribed “brand futurist” Martin Lindstrom relates the three main similarities between Apple Computers and religion. According to Lindstrom, these three are mystery, iconography, and storytelling. The Apple iconography is obvious enough and the notion of mystery is at least plausible, but I’m not entirely sure I agree with Lindstrom as far as the storytelling aspect goes. Storytelling was certainly a big part of Apple’s advertising campaign (the very same one which produced the infamous Ellen Feiss spot,) but the storytelling aspect seems to have receded in importance in recent years. In any case, take a look and draw your own conclusions.
